Choose the right floor mop.
What do you mop floors with.
That way if dust or debris falls on the floor you can clean it up before you start mopping.
Mop buckets with built in wringers work well if you are using a string or strip mop but any bucket with a handle will work fine if you are using a sponge mop.
Avoid dragging furniture like tables and chairs so you don t scratch up the floor.
So what you do is use a dry mop preferably one with static to remove dirt dust and other debris.
You can also use a laminate floor mop.
These are flat mops or spray mops usually of microfiber or other highly absorbent materials that are designed to mop cleanly without excess liquid.
Before you take water to your floors make sure you have removed as much dust and debris as you can with a dry microfiber mop or vacuum cleaner.
If you have a smooth floor a sponge mop will work well.
Vacuum first mop second.
This will get rid of loose dirt and dust.
You can also use boiling water and two teabags to clean hardwood floors.
And remember use only non abrasive mops.
If you have a floor with a lot of texture such as some ceramic tile floors you ll want the more classic string mop or a strip mop.
The tannic acid in tea creates a beautiful shine.
Do wet mopping first and you ll end up pushing the debris around.
If you need to clean any of these items do so before you move them.
Without a clean sweep or vacuum job mopping a floor.
Wipe up excess water with a clean dry towel because standing water will damage the floor.
Damp mop every two to three months but do not saturate the mop.
If you have roommates tell them what area you ll be mopping so they know to stay away for a bit.
Once they re removed pick up your wet mop and wipe up your floor using a figure 8 pattern.
If water seeps in between planks it could curl the tile loosen glue or cause mold in the subfloor.
If you re left with dingy flooring no matter how much you clean you may be breaking the first rule of mopping.

Clean tile with mild detergent and clean water using a rag or chamois type mop rather than a sponge mop.
Wring the mop out until it is almost dry then wipe over floors.

These mops are best for cleaning tile because sponge mops tend to push dirty water into the grout lines making them harder to clean.
